Sun Jun 08 - Mon Jun 09    Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Sunday - After breakfast you will be transferred to Arusha airport for your private charter flight to Manyara airstrip. Your guide will meet you upon arrival and drive you approximately 1.5 hours to Ngorongoro Crater and the Crater Lodge. The Ngorongoro Conservation area is a remarkable area. It covers an area of 8,300 sq kms, of which the Crater itself forms only 3%. The scenery is amazingly varied, with dense forests and huge mountains in the Crater Highlands, the short grass plains which host the wildebeest migration throughout many of the wet season months and the Gol Mountain range. In the evening, visit a Maasai living village or enjoy the sunset from the luxury of your rooms, overlooking the crater floor.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is a stunning lodge perched on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater - a World Heritage Site. Recently refurbished in the style of 'African baroque' this lodge has already earned a reputation as one of the finest and most unusual lodges in Africa. There are thirty cottages split between three camps thus retaining an intimate and exclusive atmosphere. The cottages are large and extremely well appointed, and as well as a shower, there is an impressive bath from which one can relax and view the Crater below! The bar & dining areas have been beautifully designed with large open decks at the front and one of the most awesome views anywhere in the world. Some might say it is "over the top" - I would say, "it's great"!

Tue Jun 10 - Thu Jun 12    Faru Faru River Lodge - Serengeti Grumeti corridor

Tuesday - You will be transferred to Manyara airstrip for your private charter flight to Sasakwa airstrip. You'll be met upon arrival at the airstrip and transfer to Faru Faru Tented Camp, situated on the Serengeti plains, beautifully decorated in grand campaign 1920s style. The six lavish tents are air-conditioned and feature a bedroom and reading area, bathroom with bath and outdoor shower, viewing deck with your own Swarovski spotting scope, and a library lounge tent. The camp also has a dining room, lounge, wide viewing deck, heated plunge pool, Jacuzzi, tennis court, spa and Colonial Trading Post.

Game drives and walks can be enjoyed with Faru's professional guides - whilst other activities include archery, lawn croquet, mountain biking, equestrian pursuits, and hot air ballooning.

Fri Jun 13 - Mon Jun 16    Mnemba Island Lodge - Zanzibar, Tanzania

Friday - You will be transferred to Sasakwa airstrip for your private charter flight to Zanzibar. Met upon arrival and transfer to Mnemba Lodge. CC Africa's Mnemba Island Lodge is situated on an exclusive island just 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) off the north-eastern tip of Zanzibar in the azure Indian Ocean. Surrounded by an atoll of breathtaking coral reefs, it boasts some of Africa's most wonderful dive sites. Mnemba is renowned as one of the most romantic ocean destinations in the world, offering a privacy and rustic exclusivity unparalleled on the African coastline.

The Zanzibar Archipelago and its 'Spice Islands', discovered by Arab traders in the 8th century, are bathed in the heady scents and romance of a bygone era. Traditional dhows (coastal Arab sailing vessels) drift across the horizon, and gentle soft-spoken islanders tend to your every need. You may fill your days relaxing on the soft white-sand beaches or indulging in irresistible pursuits in the gloriously warm waters. Fresh fruit, fish and shellfish are served daily, and romantic candle-lit dinners at the water's edge will capture your soul.

Hand-woven from traditional Zanzibarian palm-matting, each secluded banda has a spacious veranda and is hidden in the shade of a tropical beach forest, fringed by the pristine beaches that halo the Island. A palm-covered walkway leads to an en suite bathroom with shower and basin. Zanzibar is famous for its intricate, detailed woodcarvings and the scrolled headboards adorning the beds are created by some of the Island's most skilled artisans. Sheer unpretentious paradise, the architecture of the Lodge offers a rustic exclusivity and privacy unparalleled on the African coastline. Thatched dining and sitting/bar areas have beautiful open views of the beach and spectacular coral reefs beyond. Baskets of fresh fruit, fish, lobsters, crabs and prawns are sailed into Mnemba daily on traditional ngalawa outriggers, and prepared as exotic delicacies. Lunch is usually served on large wooden carved Zanzibar platters heaped with delicious mezze (fingerfood). Romantic candle-lit dinners are enjoyed on the beach with the waves gently lapping at your feet. Private beach dinners are often enjoyed by honeymooners.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal to match Mnemba's rustic beauty. You will be able to enjoy snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking and scuba diving. Deep-sea fishing and PADI diving courses are available at an additional cost. A walk around the Island reveals a variety of sea birds whilst snorkeling amongst the coral reefs introduces one to the magnificent colorful aquatic world.

Tue Jun 17 - Thu Jun 19    Lewa Downs - Sirikoi Camp - Kenya

Tuesday - After breakfast, depart on your private charter flight via Mombasa, to Lewa Downs, a 55,000-acre rhino breeding sanctuary just north of the Equator, overlooked by 17,000 ft Mt Kenya. Lewa has been home to four generations of the Craig family who now play a vital role in community development for the local people and long term conservation in modern day Kenya.

Willy and Sue Roberts own an exclusive camp at Manyangalo, recently incorporated into Lewa itself, sleeping 12 people in luxury. They or their guides will host you and bring this area alive for you. Lewa is also home to large numbers of the unique Northern species such as grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, and somali ostrich, in addition to elephant, rhino, lion, and leopard.

Here you will walk, ride horses, and game drive. In your spare time you can relax by the pool, read in the comfort of your deck overlooking a waterhole. Of particular interest are the prehistoric 500,000 year old Anchulean hand axe site. Our family has lived in the unique Ngare Niti House on Lewa Downs for 2 months each summer where we have hosted our clients who were visiting at that time.

Fri Jun 20 - Sun Jun 22    The Mukutan Retreat - Ol Ari Nyiro

Depart Lewa at 10:30am on your 30-minute charter flight to The Mukutan Retreat. ** Owned by renowned conservationist and author of "I Dreamed of Africa" Kuki Gallmann, her retreat is unique, overlooking the Mukutan Gorge and the Great Rift Valley beyond.

Sleeping only six guests in three large and private cottages, couched in Kuki's own brand of African luxury, the lodge with its spectacular setting makes an exclusive hideaway for discriminating travelers. Kuki may be here to join you for lunch one day. At Mukutan you will walk through the hills, ride horses or camels or game drive with your guide, swim in the waterfall pools, fish for tilapia or black bass, or simply relax and lose yourself in this romantic and spectacular piece of Africa.

The ranch consists of 100,000 acres of pristine Africa, and game driving here is unlike anywhere else as you will rarely if ever come across other tourists. Kuki enjoys a close relationship with the neighboring Pokot tribe, and her hosts may take you to visit them.

** Another option at this spectacular location is the opportunity to take a Tropic Air Helicopter trip that will take you on a unique trip in Kenya's Northern district - one you will never forget!

Mon Jun 23    Nairobi - Departure to the U.S.

Depart from Mukutan on your private charter flight to Nairobi Wilson Airport. You will be met upon arrival by your driver who will be at your disposal for a couple of hours should you like to fit in some last minute shopping. You will have a couple of dayrooms reserved where you can rest or have a shower before your long journey home. You will be collected this evening by your driver who will accompany you to a restaurant of your choice for dinner tonight. (Dinner payable direct.) Nairobi has many fine restaurants to choose from - the world famous Carnivore Restaurant, the Tamarind for seafood, or one of many restaurants for delicious Indian cuisine. After dinner you will be transferred to JKIA airport for check in for your departure back to Europe.

Thank you Tim and Gail. It was a great trip and thanks to our wonderful guides and crew it was safe trip and we were well taken care of. It was an incredible experience that I am so happy to have had and someday would like to do again. The views on the route were so beautiful and the summit climb was definately the most challenging thing I have ever done. Every once in awhile I would look up at the amazing stars and could not believe what I was seeing. I have never seen stars so clearly.

- Julie Floyd from New York climbed Kilimanjaro with one of our fixed departures in July 2004
