A Sample Safari to Zambia - which might be used either as an extension to a Kenya safari, or a precursor to a safari in Botswana and Cape Town.
Day 1 Tafika - Luangwa Valley - Northern Zambia
Transfer to the airport for your Kenya Airways flight KQ 424 @ 08:20 to Lusaka, landing at 10:00am. You will be met by a rep from Proflight and transfer for your private charter to Lukusi, and Tafika camp on the sandy, lazy Luangwa River.
In Zambia's remote South Luangwa Park lies Tafika, the home and unique safari camp of John and Carol Coppinger, nestled on a sweeping bank of the Luangwa River. Whilst here, John will take you for a fly along the river in his micro-light to see the vast pods of hippo, giving you yet another perspective. You will go straight out to meet the people from the local village, and spend time with them on their projects before setting off on an evening game drive to spot the great black - maned lions lounging on the river bank, elephants, massive herds of buffalo, and always-elegant giraffe.
Days 2 & 3 Crocodile Bush Camp
The next morning, you will walk through some of Africa's wildest country with an armed safari guide, to experience the bush first hand. Spend the night at Crocodile Bush Camp, which sleeps only 6 guests, in complete harmony with nature. We return for a second night at Tafika, having experienced many of the African bush's glories.
Days 4, 5, 6 Sausage Tree Camp - Zambia
Your 10:00 private charter to Jeki will take you flying low on over the wild northern Zambian bush, pick up the Luangwa River again, merging dramatically into the Zambezi coming in from the left. Descending over the stark Zambian escarpment and the Zambezi itself, circling down brings us over Zimbabwe's Mana Pools before settling on the sandy strip at Jeki. Here you will be met and board your boat to take us gently upstream, casting your lines for tiger-fish and marveling at the elephant forging across this mighty river. Jason Mott and his wife will be hosting you here, and you will spend two days getting to know this mighty river and the great quantities of game, birdlife and fish that rely upon it.
Days 7, 8, 9 Royal Livingstone - Zambia
We skim low along the river observing the massive flow of this African powerhouse, and two hours later the spray from Victoria Falls announces its thunderous cauldron. We fly overhead Victoria Falls for unforgettable views, crowned with rainbow effects, before landing at Livingstone. Met by a driver and transfer to the Royal Livingstone Hotel, a beautiful modern 5 star period style hotel on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Located a couple of miles upstream from the Victoria Falls, the hotel offers magnificent views overlooking other islands and a nearby floodplain of the Victoria Falls National Park.
Whilst here we will game view by boat, canoe, and simply relax in the hotels luxury surroundings.
We will boat up river to have a cordon bleu lunch on Livingstone Island, and plunge into a rock pool on the very lip of Victoria Falls.
Other options are the thrill of a full or half day's white water rafting on one of the most exciting rivers in the world, and or stimulating your adrenalin with a bungee jump!
Or for a more rustic, but more African experience:
Sindabezi Island - Zambia
Located 10 miles upstream from the Victoria Falls, Sindabezi Island offers magnificent views overlooking other islands and a nearby floodplain of the Victoria Falls National Park. Sindabezi is unique, being the only island lodge on the Upper Zambezi River in the Victoria Falls area. There is the chance here to experience elephant, hippo, and awaken to the dawn chorus - possibly the best wildlife experience in the Victoria Falls region.
Home to a maximum of ten guests, Sindabezi's comfortable chalets are built from local timber, reed and thatch, each with a spectacular private view over the Zambezi. Whilst here we will game view by boat, canoe, or on foot (all with a professional guide) fish, star gaze, and simply relax in Sindabezi's superb setting, entertained by Horace the camp hippo.
From here you will either take a commercial flight onto Johannesburg and on to other parts of Africa.
